Image Science + EIZO: Two decades of unmatched colour accuracy

“We bought our first EIZO monitor because we needed the best,” says Jeremy Daalder, Founder of Image Science, Australia’s longest-running fine art print laboratory. By the following year, Image Science wasn’t just using EIZO’s ColorEdge monitors, they were selling them.

“We were advocating for the brand even before we were selling them,” says Jeremy. “It was a natural extension to add them to our offering. That was almost 20 years ago.”

Today, the entire Image Science team continues to champion EIZO, not just as a reseller but as a business that depends on its ColorEdge monitors to deliver exceptional fine art prints every day.

Meeting the demand for absolute colour accuracy

For a business built around fine art printing, absolute colour accuracy is critical. When Image Science first began, achieving that accuracy was a challenge.

“If you wanted to achieve colour accuracy in the mid-2000s, it was really difficult,” says Jeremy. “It required both a lot of investment and a lot of technique to do a really good job with colour.”

At the time, high-quality LCD monitors were virtually non-existent. Professionals relied on bulky CRT monitors like Sony and Mitsubishi Trinitrons, which, while colour-accurate, were impractical due to their size, weight and cost. EIZO was leading the way in high-quality LCDs, and I think they were just about the only real choice at that point.”

Even as display technology has improved across the industry, EIZO remains at the forefront of colour accuracy and reliability, says Jeremy. “EIZO still sits at the top.”

Insider expertise that sets Image Science apart

Image Science is unique in that it both sells and uses EIZO’s ColorEdge monitors.

“Most retailers don’t actually use the products they sell,” Jeremy points out. “They don’t rely on them in their day-to-day work. You can sell a thousand displays and still not really know how to use them.

“The real difference with us has always been that we use the products we sell in a commercial context every single day to create high-quality work.”

This hands-on experience allows Image Science to provide a level of expertise and support that most retailers simply can’t match.

“We have as much experience as literally anyone in the country when it comes to practically using EIZO monitors to solve the colour accuracy challenges faced by photographers, artists, illustrators, and anyone in the visual arts. Our approach – actually working in fine art printing – has really informed our ability to sell EIZO monitors.”

Built to last, backed by genuine support

For Image Science, a key factor in choosing and selling EIZO is the brand’s exceptional customer support and five-year warranty.

“The problem with complex technological devices is that they’re often sold on flashy features, but they’re very poorly supported,” says Jeremy. “If you’re going to invest in a high-end monitor, you want to be sure you’ll get long-term value and won’t be left without support if something goes wrong.”

“Nobody else offers a five-year warranty, and nobody else stands by it the way EIZO does,” Jeremy continues. “They made a promise to the customer, and they live by it. I know that when a customer has a genuine hardware issue, we can send them to EIZO, and they’ll be looked after.

“Unhappy customers just aren’t something we deal with when it comes to EIZO. With almost every other brand, there’s always some kind of friction. They are genuinely good people.”

That said, the quality of EIZO monitors means the warranty rarely even comes into play.

“What I always tell people is to think about the long-term investment they’re making,” says Jeremy. “You’re not buying an EIZO for just one year. Most people use their EIZO for eight to ten years. That’s an incredibly long lifespan in technological terms.”

A shared commitment to quality

“There’s been a real synergy between our two organisations – two businesses devoted to quality,” Jeremy says. “It’s been a real meeting of the minds, and I think it’s worked really well for EIZO, and it’s worked really well for us too.”

Image Science is entering a new era, with Jeremy passing the baton to new owner James McGill, an expert in the print space. “We believe James will make an excellent new steward for Image Science,” says Jeremy. “We look forward to seeing all the amazing things James and the team work on in the future.”

EIZO and Image Science’s long-standing partnership will continue under the business’s new leadership, notes Jeremy. “We’ve always focused on solving our customers’ problems, and EIZO is a tool we can rely on – one that never lets us down.”
