Visibility You Can Navigate By
1. Optical Bonding for Maritime Environments
The monitor features in‑house optical bonding to enhance visibility and durability in maritime environments.
By filling the gap between the LCD module and cover glass with resin, optical bonding reduces ambient reflections and prevents condensation that can cause fogging during harsh temperature changes.
In testing, the MDS1901’s related model, the 27″ MDF2701W with 350 cd/m2 brightness and optical bonding, delivered superior readability and reduced reflections compared to a non‑bonded screen with 500 cd/m2. To achieve visibility comparable to the MDF2701W, a non‑bonded monitor would require an estimated brightness of 1160 cd/m2.

High Quality and Efficiency Through In-House Production
At its factory headquarters in Ishikawa, Japan, EIZO has installed a state-of-the-art optical bonding line. This setup delivers high quality and efficient production, enabling flexible and timely response to specialized market needs and challenging operating environments.
2. Exceptional Visibility
Wide Brightness Range
The monitor has a wide dimming range of 0.05 to 350 cd/m2. This allows operators to adjust to the appropriate brightness level for optimal visibility during the day or at night.
Clear View with Wide Viewing Angles
The panel features wide viewing angles that minimize changes in contrast and gradation to maintain excellent visibility when the screen is viewed from the side.
Reduced Screen Reflection
The screen has an anti‑reflection (AR) finish to reduce glare from ambient light, and an anti‑fingerprint (AF) finish to minimize smudges and residue from touch.
3. Designed for Maritime
Calibrated for ECDIS
To meet the specialized needs of ECDIS systems, backlight brightness, gamma, and RGB color settings are factory-calibrated for accurate color reproduction. The monitor complies with IEC 61174, IEC 62288, and IEC 62388 (CAT 1) international standards for ECDIS and RADAR applications.
Maritime Classifications
The monitor meets the requirements of major maritime classifications, including DNV (Norway/Germany), LR (UK), ABS (USA), NK (Japan), and EU RO MR to align with IMO (International Maritime Organization) regulations.
4. Durability and Reliability
Protection in Harsh Environments
The monitor offers durability for use in harsh maritime environments, complying with the conditions for temperature, humidity, and vibration as defined in the IEC 60945 international standard for maritime navigation and radio communication equipment and systems. The monitor’s front is rated IP65, making it dust‑tight and protected against pressurized water jets, while the rear is rated IP22 for protection against the ingress of solid objects and water drops.
Power Supply Redundancy
Multiple power inputs allow you to power the monitor using either a DC or AC connection, or both in parallel for redundancy.
Long-Term Reliability
The monitor is built for 24-hour use and is backed by a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty for long-term reliability.
5. Convenient Installation
Complete Connection
The monitor is equipped with DisplayPort, DVI-D, and D-Sub inputs. It also equipped with USB Type-B and RS-232C communication interfaces.
Flexible Positioning
The monitor can be installed and operated horizontally or tilted downward up to 30° without affecting performance. With the optional tilt stand, it also supports ceiling mounting for flexible positioning.
Optional Tilt Stand
An optional stand (MDS‑T242) allows the monitor to be tilt adjusted in 15° increments. The stand meets the requirements of major maritime classifications, including DNV (Norway/Germany), LR (UK), ABS (USA), NK (Japan), and EU RO MR.
Some certifications are pending approval.
When mounted upright on a desk or table, it offers upward tilt of up to 60° and downward tilt of up to 30°.
When mounted on a ceiling, it offers upward and downward tilt of up to 30°.
Fanless Operation
EIZO designed the monitor to prevent heat buildup, negating the need for fans, by implementing a unique, low power consumption design and using cutting-edge thermo-fluid analysis. Proper heat management eliminates the risk of hardware failure or deterioration of internal components due to external air intake from fans, ensuring that the monitor can be used reliably for a long time.
Slim Design and Light Weight
The thin sheet metal used for the monitor’s housing and the fanless design allow for a slimmer and lighter weight monitor compared to other products in the same size class. This helps to streamline installation.
Installation to Consoles
Designed for seamless integration into maritime consoles, the panel mount structure supports front-side installation. The DuraVision MDS1901’s mounting holes are consistent with those of EIZO’s 19-inch DuraVision FDS1904 maritime monitor, ensuring a smooth upgrade path for system refreshes.
The physical dimensions differ between MDS1901 and FDS1904. See specifications for details.
